With a 5-octave vocal range and virtuosity as a flutist, she has captivated audiences across genres. Beyond music, she is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of AGENDA Magazine, a leading fashion and lifestyle publication, and the mastermind behind KL Publishing Group, where she has nurtured and released a diverse array of literary works. A Multifaceted Musical Journey Kaylene’s debut into the jazz world was nothing short of remarkable. Her single “Do You Remember” from her first album, All Jazzed Up!, soared to the top of independent music charts. Her follow-up album, My Man, solidified her standing as a prominent jazz artist, featuring collaborations with legends such as Bunny Brunel, Hubert Laws, and Bobby Lyle. The album made waves, earning a spot on the Grammy ballot and taking home the Akademia Award for Best Jazz Song with her version of John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps.” Her Romantic Bossa-Nova album enjoyed international acclaim, gaining significant airplay in countries such as Brazil, Portugal, Canada, and France. It was also named Album of the Week by Smooth FM in Portugal. In 2016, Kaylene joined the Grammy-nominated fusion group CAB as their flutist, where she tackled Chick Corea’s intricate compositions. Her ability to navigate such technically demanding music earned her immense praise, especially for “achieving the impossible.” Her musical ambitions show no signs of slowing down. She is currently working on two exciting projects: Doppelganger, an album blending spy jazz, fusion, and lounge music with her group Peoples Republic; and Romantic Bossa-Nova 2, featuring her original compositions. Her latest album, Vampire Odyssey, showcases her evolving artistry as she delves into new musical realms. A Visionary in Film Scoring and Composition Before venturing into publishing,
Kaylene had an accomplished career in film scoring, composition, and conducting. Her body of work includes composing symphonies, creating a ten-act ballet, and scoring independent films. She also contributed orchestrations to major Hollywood productions like American Pie 2 and Serendipity.
As a string arranger, she worked with major labels such as Warner Bros., Capitol Records, and Universal Republic. Notably, she was the string arranger for post-grunge band Oleander, contributing to their albums, including Unwind, which has since been hailed as one of the top post-grunge records.
Acclaimed Filmmaker and Storyteller Kaylene’s talents extend beyond music to filmmaking. Her film Redemption, which she wrote, directed, and scored, garnered widespread recognition in film festivals. Winning prestigious awards for Best First-Time Director, Best Picture, and the Jury Award, Redemption underscored her storytelling prowess. The film’s success demonstrated her ability to seamlessly blend her cinematic vision with her musical talents, solidifying her position as a creative powerhouse.
Innovator in Publishing and Women’s Advocacy In the realm of publishing, Kaylene Peoples made a significant impact with AGENDA Magazine, which has become a trendsetter in the fashion and lifestyle sectors. Recognized as one of the top 20 magazines in Los Angeles by Feedspot in 2024, AGENDA has grown into a platform for launching other successful publications. Through her KL Publishing Group, she has edited and published an array of books and magazines, furthering her influence in the literary world. As a dedicated advocate for women in the arts, Kaylene founded Bella Composers, which launched the first international female composers competition for Artemis Women Powered Music, part of the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival (2019-2021). This initiative underscores her commitment to championing female talent in music and beyond.
