Authorities in Los Angeles have officially closed the investigation into Matthew Perry’s death. The LAPD and DEA had launched a joint investigation following Perry’s death on October 28, 2023, when he was found unresponsive in his hot tub at his Los Angeles home. The initial focus was on the high levels of ketamine found in his system. Perry had been undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression and anxiety, but the ketamine levels at the time of his death could not be linked to his last therapy session, leading to further scrutiny.

The coroner’s report listed the primary cause of death as the acute effects of ketamine, with drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine also contributing. Despite these findings, Perry’s death was ultimately ruled accidental with no evidence of foul play (Peoplemag) (Yahoo).

Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, had a well-documented history of substance abuse, which he detailed in his memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. He had undergone numerous rehab stays and surgeries related to his addiction struggles. His memoir also described his mixed experiences with ketamine therapy (AOL.com).
