Six years after appearing in the movie that made Margot Robbie a household name, Leonardo DiCaprio and the Australian actress reunite for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.
The Wolf of Wall Street was the first film in which the actors appeared together. DiCaprio played the dishonest Wall Street billionaire Jordan Belfort (for which he received a Golden Globe), while Robbie played his patient yet fearless and feisty wife Naomi. Robbie was previously best recognised for her performance in the Australian serial opera Neighbours.
For Quentin Tarantino’s movie, they are collaborating once more. Robbie plays Sharon Tate, a 1960s movie star cruelly murdered by Charles Manson’s gang, while DiCaprio plays a struggling actor.
In an interview with Australian TV programme The Sunday Project, the Titanic actor compared the two times they worked together and recalled the first time he was truly pleased with Robbie as an actress.
The scene where Robbie tossed a glass of water in DiCaprio’s face stands out in his memory despite the fact that there were many notable ones in the film, including the Qualude scene with Jonah Hill and the near-death boat encounter, to name just two.
“On Wolf of Wall Street,” he recalled, “I just knew I was watching a dynamic presence in cinema that was about to be.” Margot entered the room and read the scene with him. “[Martin] Scorcese and I were taken away by how much she gave back to the scene, fought back, and we both instantly realised she was going to have a tremendous career,” said the filmmaker.
Robbie feels the same way towards him.
She chuckled, “I couldn’t believe it occurred the first time. Then, when I returned to work with Leo, it seemed quite absurd.
